The tenor Helge Rønning was born in Mo i Rana, Norway. He studied at the Music Conservatory in Oslo and at the Academy of Opera in Copenhagen.

 

He has appeared in opera roles such as Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Belfiore in La Finta Giardiniera and Soliman in Zaide at the opera in Hanover, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Naples as well as at the Komische Oper Berlin, Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Nemorino in L’elisir D’amore at the Norwegian National Opera, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola, Conte di Libenskof in Il Viaggo a Reims, Albert in Albert Herring and Kunz Vogelsang in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Royal Danish Opera, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola at the Gothenburg Opera,  Nemorino in L’elisir D’amore, Ferrando in Così fan tutte and Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Århus Summer opera in Denmark, Mester Olaus in Edvard Fliflet Bræin’s Anne Pedersdotter with Bergen National Opera, the world premier of Anitra Tumsevica’s opera Red with Bodoe Music Theatre, and Tom in The Rakes Progress in Copenhagen. He has also appeared as Vilhelm in Nørgård’s Nuit des hommes in France, Denmark, Germany, Holland and England.

 

Helge Rønning has worked with conductors such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Giancarlo Andretta, Alfredo Bernardini, Fabio Biondi, Baldur Bronnimann, Francesco Corti, Ottavio Dantone, Bernhard Epstein, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Yoel Gamzou, Leopold Hager, Olaf Henzold, Mihkel Kütson, Stephen Layton, Reinbert de Leeuw, Eduardo López Banzo, Juanjo Mena, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Kirill Petrenko, Joshua Rifkin, Andras Schiff, Peter Schreier, Stefan Solymon, Christoph Spering, Andrew Wilder, Johannes Wildner and Nicolaj Znajder.

 

Helge Rønning has a vast concert repertoire including masses, oratorios, cantatas and symphonies by Monteverdi, Bach, Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Rossini, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Mahler, Orff, Honegger, Ramirez and Britten.

 

Engagements in the season 2010/11 included Le Berger in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex with Bergen National Opera, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde in Schönberg’s setting in Brussels as well as in Stavanger with the conductor Yoel Gamzou and in Bodo with the conductor Reinbert de Leeuw, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle in Oslo, Monteverdi’s Maria vesper in Bergen as well as in Skien, and Bach’s St John Passion in Bergen.

 

Assignments in the season 2011/12 included Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde in Schönberg’s setting in Oslo, Skien and Moss with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, a staged version of Bach’s St. John Passion in Tromsoe, Bach’s Magnificat with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Bodoe, Mozart’s Requiem in Trondheim, Handel’s Messiah in Bergen, and Haydn’s Missa Cellensis in Oslo.

 

Current and upcoming engagements include Beppe in I Pagliacci and 1:Jude in Salome at the Norwegian National Opera, Bach’s St John Passion in Bodoe and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in Sandnes.
