Yngve Søberg







The Norwegian baritone Yngve Søberg studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and at the Royal Danish Opera Academy.


In 2007 he made his debut at the Copenhagen Opera House as Mandarin in Turandot and shortly after at the Norwegian National Opera as the Sacristan in Puccini's Tosca.


Since the autumn of 2010 he has been a member of the soloist ensemble at the Norwegian National Opera singing roles such as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Amonasro in Aida, Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Junius in The Rape of Lucretia, Lorenzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte, Hobson in Peter Grimes and Sagrestano as well as Cesare Angelotti in Tosca. He has also sung Prisoner in the world premiere of Cecilie Ore's Dead Beat Escapement and Little John in Frank Schwemmer's Robin Hood.


Guest engagements have included Silvio in I Pagliacci and Marcello in La Bohème with the Oscarsborg Opera and Germont in La Traviata in Bodo and Tromso.


As a concert singer he regularly appears with many of Scandinavia's leading orchestras in repertoire including works by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Fauré, Ravel and Weill.


He has worked with conductors such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Ingar Bergby, Oleg Caetani, Daniele Callegari, Jonathan Darlington, John Helmer Fiore, Antonino Fogliani, Patrick Fournillier, Roy Goodman, Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Miguel Hart-Bedoya, Pietari Inkinen, Kirill Karabits, Stefan Klingele, Pier Gerhard Markson, Giorgio Morandi, Jun Märkl, Rudolph Piehlmayer, Patrik Ringborg, Marc Soustrot, Ward Stare, Peter Szilvay, Muhai Tang, Keri-Lynn Wilson and Xian Zhang.


2014 included Marcello in La Bohème, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and Masetto in Don Giovanni at the Norwegian National Opera, Angelotti in Tosca at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (in a cast including Catherine Naglestad and José Cura) and Fauré's Requiem with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.


Assignment in 2015 included Schaunard in La Bohème in Hanover (with Sonya Yoncheva, Michael Fabiano and Mariusz Kwiecien), Germont in La Traviata, Escamillo in Carmen, The King's Herald in Lohengrin and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Norwegian National Opera, Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn in Oslo and a Gala Concert in Germany with Angel Joy Blue and Joseph Calleja.


2016 has started with Germont in La Traviata at the Norwegian National Opera and concerts of Mendelssohn's Elias with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.


Yngve Søberg is the recipient of Norway's two most prestigious awards; the Ruud Wallenberg Award and the Tom Wilhelmsen Award.
